Does anyone else have a pathological hatred for the net term “pwned”? I mean, what the fuck’s up with that?
Whoever coined the phrase should be put on trial for Crimes Against the English Language….I mean, seriously – who conceives such shit?
Guh!
~MRDA~
There are so many net terms/spellings/capitalization that are idiotic. The bizarre part is making fun of people who can’t spell (too prevalent on the net) with further misspellings. Pretty soon, no one will know which are right.
What are you doing up so late/early?
You’re right…the language is sliding into digital decadence…
As for me…I’m getting ready to slide into my bed now – got work in the morning.
Hope all is well – I will make a point of chatting with you again soon….
What on earth is that word? I haven’t come across it before.
Have you heard the term “owned” in use? “Pwned” is basically its annoying little brother….
No, I haven’t. I guess I only read things that have no internet speak in them or something! What’s the “owned” thing about?
“Owning” someone is basically getting the better of someone in a debate, fight etc…mainly in a net context, but it can be used offline too….I quite like the term, just not the typo mutation of it….
I see. It’s all a bit modern and technological for me. 😉
It mostly comes from online games.
Nobody conceived it.. it just got typoed into fashion, Like a lot of internet literation. Mind you, it’s literary; not post literary; people aren’t fashioning words intentionally, they have been born from the enviroment (such as a typo). I don’t mind pwned, but “teh” I find annoying.
Looking at the configuration of the keyboard closely, I begin to see how such abominations can come to pass. still, it’s a poor show, even for net literation methinks….the damned thing isn’t even pronouncable….ugh!
Another one which gnaws at me like a tick on heat is “OMG” – do you not think “Valley Girl!” when you hear that, or is it just me?
OMG is bad. Even worse is when people actually say OH MY GOD verbally, over and over… It makes me want to punch them in the jaw.
Touche, Konami!
I haven’t quite come across that one — ever.
I gues that’s a good thing then.
😉
Yeah – you should certainly consider yourself fortunate in that respect….;)
