- The Armed Archipelago: Pan-Secession and Decentralized Violence 8th October 2026By Francisco Albanese A pan-anarchist or pan-secessionist politics begins from an intuition that is difficult to separate from the libertarian tradition: the greater the concentration of power in a single institution, the greater that institution’s capacity to impose decisions upon populations that do not want them. Hence the […] The post The Armed Archipelago: Pan-Secession […]Keith Preston
- The War You Are Meant to See: China, Strategic Visibility, and Fifth-Gradient Warfare 8th October 2026By Francisco Albanese Modern military thought has often described the evolution of warfare in terms of successive generations. The most influential version of this model emerged in the late 1980s, when Lind et al. (1989) distinguished between three established generations of modern warfare and suggested the emergence of a […] The post The War You Are […]Keith Preston

- The Rishi Sunak Question is the wrong question 8th October 2026About a year ago Konstantin Kisin of Triggernometry stirred up controversy by suggesting that Rishi Sunak, former British Prime Minister, was “not English”. At the time, I tried to write something and failed miserably. The other week the controversy flared up again as Sunak, himself, belatedly commented on the affair. Once again, I tried to […]Patrick Crozier (Twickenham)

While Miliband’s anti-Israel stance might appeal to Labour’s vocal pro-Palestinian lobby, his preference […]Johnathan Pearce (London)

- Winesburg, Ohio 25th September 2026Sherwood Anderson’s 1922 book is quite far from the scifi I more often review here, but I got interested after watching Tales from the Loop (which I’m going to repeatedly reference throughout this post) and hearing that the showrunner, Nathaniel Halpern, was inspired by this short-story cycle in making his adaptation of an entirely different […]teageegeepea

- Review: Lawrence in Arabia 10th June 2021Scott Anderson’s Lawrence in Arabia is, quite obviously, about the famous T. E. Lawrence “of” Arabia. I read this book concurrently with The Berlin-Baghdad Express, so my […]evolutiontheorist
